Project Overview:
To conduct a Twitter-based Social Media Marketing for Aamir Khan's production venture 'Peepli Live'. Released in India on August 13, 2010 Peepli Live was the first Indian film to be accepted at the Sundance Film Festival, and has been critically acclaimed by those at the Berlin Film Festival as well as by the top film critics in India and abroad/
The Mission:
Pi Social Media was to create, managed and moderate the premiere Peepli Live Twitter channel. It’s primary objectives were:-
- To generate pre-release awareness and excitement for Peepli Live
- Create and maintain a sustained online buzz for the film
- Develop an active community of interested followers by connecting with fans, critics and movie lovers worldwide
- Create word-of-mouth publicity for Peepli Live through social channels
- Provide news and updates about the film on a daily basis
- Stimulate conversation around the film and maintain the excitement level for a period of months before the actual release
- Focus on the issues raised in the film and promote discussion and debate
- Provide interesting updates to the community about the producer, director and other members of the Peepli Live team
- Moderate comments and provide information requested by the community
Action Taken:
The pre-release Social Media Marketing for Peepli Live was conducted exclusively through Twitter. Pi Social Media created, customized and monitored the only active pre-release Peepli Live channel in the Twitterverse – @PeepliLiveFilm. Months before the official release of the film, @PeepliLiveFilm became one of the fastest growing and most active Bollywood film-based Twitter channels.
Results:
Soon after launcing, @PeepliLiveFilm developed an active community of over 8,000 followers and was featured on 80+ popular Twitter lists. In just a couple of months, in addition to achieving all the stated objectives it was the most popular hangout for Aamir Khan Productions’ Peepli Live fans around the world. More than 3 months before the release of Peepli Live, @PeepliLiveFilm crossed the threshold milestone of 10,000 followers.
